Anshu Kumar Bhuyan made Orissa proud when he bagged a glorious double by winning both the singles and doubles titles in the boys category of the AITA Under-16 Super Series Tennis Tournament at Rourkela today.
The hi-profile trainee of Bhubaneswar-based Ace-base Tennis Resort, Anshu crushed A K Pardhasaratdhi (Andhra Pradesh) in the singles final 6-1, 6-2. In the doubles final, Anshu and Madhurjya Dutta (Assam) faced stiff fight against Andhra Pradesh duo of A K Parthasaradhi and Sheikh Abdullah before winning 4-6, 6-3, 11-9. The title triumph fetched Anshu 50 National ranking points both in singles and doubles.
Tirtha Iska (AP) won the girls’ singles crown, defeating her younger sister Akshyara 6-3, 6-3 in the final. Police IG (Western Range) Prana Bindu Acharya gave away the mementos at the closing function.
Earlier in the semifinals, Anshu prevailed over Sheikh Abdullah (AP) 5-7, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 in singles. In doubles, Anshu and Dutta got the better of Surya Pawan (AP and P Vignesh Prabhu (TN) 5-3, 5-3. Ace-Base coaches Ajay Nishank and Lalit Dash described Anshu’s impressive achievement as the result of his hard work and determination.
